Recently the Oregon Business Magazine did a feature story on what’s been happening in Oregon’s outdoor apparel industry. Many people are looking for “that Oregon appeal,” which many consumers and businesses see as hip, diverse, and entrepreneurial. Local companies are testing the waters and embracing crowdfunding and social media to help them grow and of course coming up with new designs that embody both urban style and wilderness functionality.
Matt Murphy, CEO and founder of Proper Course & Co, launched his company in 2011 and will debut the first line of high fashion functional shoes in 2015. He settled in Portland for the “entrepreneurial spirit” and the fact that a large portion of the people living in the city has a great knowledge of the outdoors.
Also featured in the article is Daniel Clancey of Homeschool Snowboarding. His company makes outerwear and underlayers for snowboarders.
