The city of Portland has become a startup powerhouse since the recession. Being slightly less expensive than other major West Coast cities, Portland is also home to Nike, Wieden+Kennedy and Intel’s largest campus. The other uniqueness Portland offers is two programs, the Portland Incubator Experiment and the Portland Seed Fund. These two programs have together incubated over 60 companies, creating 775 jobs and raising more than $140 million.

Since 2009 the public and private sectors of the city have joined together to focus resources on the startup scene. The Portland Seed Fund launched as the first public-backed accelerator and Wieden+Kennedy launched their company backed accelerator, the Portland Incubator Experiment. These two programs and schools like the Pensole Academy have brought talent to Portland and helped elevate the city as a place for entrepreneurs, disinters and tech geniuses.
