Beaverton legal tech firm Exterro expands with deal worth more than $100 million
Big news on Exterro, client of Jon Summers!
Exterro, a legal technology firm based in Beaverton, said Thursday it has acquired a Utah-based “digital forensic” company to complement its own products.
“It’s a substantial deal—over nine figures,” Exterro CEO Bobby Balachandran said in a statement. That values the transaction at more than $100 million, a huge acquisition by Oregon tech standards.
Exterro provides “e-discovery” technology used to search email, text messages and other electronic communication when those materials are needed for litigation or regulatory compliance. Founded in 2004, the Beaverton company sold to a private equity firm in 2018 in a deal worth more than $100 million.
Exterro is buying AccessData, which provides digital forensic services to law enforcement, government agencies and law firms. The companies said the deal will allow the combined organization to offer a complete suite of services for legal and digital investigations.
Exterro employs 350, including 54 in Oregon. It said it will retain AccessData’s entire management team and said the Utah company’s 150 employees will “play a significant role” in the combined business.
