First look: Green Zebra opens a new grocery store in Southeast Portland
Green Zebra, client of Scott Davidson, just opened their newest location in Portland, Oregon!
The newest Green Zebra location opened Wednesday. The 7,000 square foot store at Southeast 50th Avenue and Division Street -- the fourth Green Zebra in Portland -- will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.“One of the things we are trying to do at Green Zebra is create community through food,” Green Zebra founder and CEO Lisa Sedlar said Tuesday.
To that end, Sedlar builds brightly colored spaces with spots to eat and hang out. The new store has a station for dogs with treats that will include kennels and ample bike parking.
“We put stores in neighborhoods that are walking and biking neighborhoods," Sedlar, "and I hope people will walk and bike to the store.”
The store is a block away from the Clinton Street bikeway and at the conversion of two major bus lines -- the 2 and the 14. Sedlar hopes her store will be a healthy and convenient option for people living in the area and traveling through.
The Green Zebra model has been to put stores in locations that are underserved by grocery stores. The new store fits that model -- there are no grocery stores within what would generally be considered walking distance of the Division Green Zebra.
A grand opening celebration will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m and will feature local vendor samplings, a raffle, goodie bags to the first 100 customers, carrot cake and more.
On Tuesday, Sedlar led The Oregonian/OregonLive through the new space before it officially opened. Watch the video and scroll through pictures to see the next Green Zebra for yourself.
The new store will feature a nacho bar, with vegan and regular nacho cheese. There will be kombucha slushies available as well. The produce section isn’t huge but consists of daily essentials. The beer and wine selection is extensive. There are multiple spots to sit and eat. The ice cream selection includes a variety of dairy-free options, including oat milk ice cream. Green Zebra stocks many local products. Drip coffee is not an afterthought at Green Zebra. There are many local options available.
