In the coming months Steelport, client of Jon Summers, plans to release more knives in a variety of sizes.

The high-end cutlery company Steelport Knife Company has unveiled the second knife in its high-end collection.

Steelport launched last year with only its 8-inch knife available for purchase. Co-founder Ron Khormaei said in coming onths, it plans to release more knives in a variety of sizes, though the exact details of this expansion are not public yet.

The new 6-inch chef knife offers a more approachable alternative with which Khormaei loves to cut vegetables.

“It allows it to be more maneuverable, and it is smaller so you can move it around, and some people like to do a rocking area type of cooking,” Khormaei said.

Globally, the luxury knife industry is growing fast, estimated to be worth some $10 billion over the coming years. Priced at $350 without a protective sheath, Steelport’s 6-inch knife looks to compete with the Japanese-made giants on the cutlery market.

Khormaei said, though, Steelport’s knives are aimed at anyone who wants to put an extra amount of love and care into what they cook, not just luxury chefs. If someone plans to spend extra on quality ingredients, their equipment should reflect that, Khormaei said.

“If you're putting a lot of love and care into choosing organic, grass fed food, and you spend hours getting the perfect product, then going with an inferior cutting knife, inferior cookware, it kind of misses the whole point,” Khormaei said.

Steelport will hold a public launch party to celebrate this new release and the coming expansion, Feb. 11. between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at the company’s factory space at 3602 N.E. Sandy Blvd.
