Light & Motion Launches Kickstarter Campaign for VIS LightPool Taillight

Light & Motion, client of Tom Armstrong, drops a new kickstarter!

Marina, CA based company, Light & Motion, is known for being a pioneer in light manufacturing. Backed by award-winning photographers, as well as mountain bikers, and divers, Light & Motion is back with a new product, the VIS LightPool Taillight.

While biking is a great physical activity, biking can be dangerous, especially at times with reduced vision such as night or fog. The Centers for Disease Control reports that over 130,000 cyclists are injured and nearly 1,000 die in roadway crashes every year - the majority of which occur in urban areas and away from intersections. With the growing number of cyclists commuting to and from work, emphasis must be placed on ensuring cyclists are seen and acknowledged.

Just as high beams aren’t great for seeing drivers, traditional bike lights have some room for improvement. Traditional bike rear lights tend to blink or shine in a way that makes it difficult to see the biker. Bike lights can have a blinding effect or be dimly lit, causing more difficulty for drivers or pedestrians and making it challenging for others to identify the source of the light as a biker.

According to their Kickstarter campaign “VIS LightPool directs amber light down towards the spokes and pedals of the bike, allowing drivers to easily identify the cyclist. The VIS LightPool effect comes from sensors that automatically turn on the downlight once it gets dark to complement the rear-facing light controlled by the rider. The beam pattern alternates between downlight and rear-facing light.”
