The 2022 White Summers Year in Review
Its been a crazy, amazing, unforgettable year for all of us. The Pandemic receded (sort-of), the public and private capital markets cratered, supply chains got rerouted, the acquihire M&A market took off – and there was a boatload of company restructurings (more than we can count). All of this in the context of inflation, high borrowing costs and a new appreciation for sustainable operations and moderate but steady growth. As the volume of financings receded, the number of strategic alliances, JVs and channel marketing deals increased. Many EU company migrations to the US West Coast either didn’t happen or flowed to NY, Miami or London instead.
It was a year of change, and we all had to adapt. For our firm we saw an inflow of new work from cost-conscious larger tech companies, new growth markets in India and in the UK – and opportunities for new related services businesses that we will launch in 2023. Here are the highlights:
We added new offices in Dallas, Toronto, Bangalore….and are planning for a new EU office in Munich in 2023
We added 6 new lawyers working out of our offices Dallas, Toronto and Bangalore. Our global staff now exceeds 30.
Our EU Office in Budapest is up to 10 legal and support personnel
Joy Nair and Meredith Fox became new partners in our firm
Our plans in 2023 include the launch of several new initiatives – some of which we have been working on for a while and are now ready to go live:
White Legal Strategy – WLS is a carveout of our legal strategy work focused on complex restructurings, workouts and spinouts. The hard stuff. We open in January 2023.
Liquidity Club – Check out http://www.liquidity.club/. Its taken 2 years to build the Club platform for invite-only scaling post seed pre-A companies seeking liquidity as new funding, new revenue and exits. We are taking in company applications now through our global acceleration partners in EU, US, India, Latam, Pan-Asia and Africa.
Future Market Expansion – We will expand our presence in the UK given the migration of EU region companies into that market, we will expand our presence in the German tech community with the new Munich office primarily focused on outbound work from Germany into the CEE region and US, and we will explore new opportunities from China outbound into EU, India and Africa.
It’s a lot to chew on, but we wanted to share with you where our firm is headed. And of course we will endeavor to do all of this with you, with your input, ideas and support. 2023 will be exciting for all of us!
