Pensole and Foot Locker are “Fueling the Future of Footwear”

Our client, Pensole Footwear Design Academy, in Old Town Portland, is teaming up with Foot Locker to create a new one-of-a-kind shoe to be sold in Foot Locker stores. In July 18 Pensole students will participate in a competition, “Fueling the Future of Footwear”, to get the approval and production of their design by Asics and Foot Locker.

The 18 students will be divided into six three-person teams. Their task is to redesign the Asics Gel Lyte III in addition to creating an original design. The teams will compete in design, engineering, material and business planning. The winning team will be selected by various footwear industry representatives, including Foot Locker and Asics, and receive a $12,000 scholarship.

This is one of several advances by Pensole this year. They have another new partner; this one a manufacturer in South Korea which will produce a Pensole student-designed line. Pensole is also expanding and renovating its headquarters to include on-site production and a digital-design studio, as well as an area for footwear-business students.
